I don’t know which laptop is better or if there is a huge difference. The dell is refurbished and the compaq is brand new. so here’s the problem. we have 4 pcs..2 wii systems and 2 ps3 systems. we need all of them to be connected to the router through ethernet cables, but the router only has 4 ethernet ports. so we are wondering if it would be possible to connect another router to the existing one so we will be able to have all the systems connected? or if there is another way we can have all 8 systems connected?
none of the pcs are wireless capable.

Hello,

I am trying to set up a network here, with one Broadband router, one normal router and an 8-port switch. So basically, I want to use the Broadband router to provide Internet access to the Normal Router, which then shares it with the rest of the computers.

I know that I can just connect the Broadband router to the switch to connect every computer to the internet, but it doesn’t have access controls, which I need to have.

Thank you very much for any help given.

8-port MADI audio router/splitter/aggregator system

I have an issue with Browser HIjacking and have gotten some advice from here. One answer suggested i reset the router. If you read my question before, i get hijacked on every browser i use. Even my imac. which is brand new. The first page i went to on Safari got hijacked. I have tried every conceivable anti spyware program and none of them have found this malware i seem to have.

The interesting idea is that considering the router may be the only place that i havent looked yet. Does it hold web pages or some type of caching ? Will resetting it purge it ? Is it possible for a virus to sit on a router, just to pop to the next open port it gets a request from ?

Ive rewiped my pc and sure enough the same browser hijack came up first thing. So heres my network

cable modem
linksys 8 port wired router
netgear 8 port switch
netgear 4 port wireless router.

3 windows xp systems.
1 Apple imac
3 Tivos

i was thinking it could have been one of two things. The Netgear wireless router wasnt secured until recently. Perhaps someone used it and loaded me up. However i doubt it.I dont think the switch can be it. It could have been a website i visited, just like most browser hijacks probably originate.

If im missing something please email me directly because i dont know how to ask follow up questions with people that answer my questions, And also thanks in advance for your help.

When a computer or network equipment is shutdown, switches often remain on and continue to consume considerable amount of power. With Green Ethernet technology, D-Link switches can automatically detect link status and reduce power usage of ports that are idle. Computers or any connecting parties set to standby mode (not power off), however, will not provide significant power savings. The Green Ethernet switches have the ability to analyze the length of any Ethernet cable connected to them for adjustment of power usage accordingly. Shorter lengths require less power. For a traditional switch, power consumption remains constant even when the ports are not in use. In a standard workday scenario where PCs are used for 10 hours a day and powered off 14 hours a day, and connected to the switch using 20 meter cables, D-Link’s Green Ethernet can save up to 40%* power used for each system.Get the blazing speed of Gigabit Ethernet with the D-Link DGS-2208, an 8-port 10/100/1000Mbps Gigabit Switch that delivers power, performance, and reliability in one cost-effective, space-saving design.
