Ok I’m semi experienced with networking and computers so jargon is ok i’ll understand it.
I’m not sure if its possible to use a SWITCH to distribute internet to all the computers in the house. I wanted to run lines down the walls to all the rooms in my house and just a router (with 4 or possibly 8 ports) would not accommodate all of the rooms.
I know a switch is a layer 2 device and only functions on MAC addresses when it sends data out and not ip’s.
But if you put a ROUTER in between the modem and the switch will this distribute internet connection to all of the ports on the switch? Then can I hook all the newly run lines into the switch and have internet access on all of the computers?
So structure should look like this if it works the way im talking about…
ISP —> modem —> router —> switch —> each computer
Will this work?

Yup, it will work. The router in effect is a switch on the LAN side anyway, all you are doing is cascading switches, which is allowed.
Yes, this will work. The switch is just a switch.
Assuming you have set up the router correctly, obviously. If you connect a PC directly to the router and it works then it is OK.
